TMS #008: Upgrade Your Identity
“I’m not good enough.”, “I’m not looking good.”, “I’m not deserving it.”
Negative self-talk often leads to stress, poor sleep, and even depression.
A positive strong identity helps prevent these thoughts from arising.
Get some quick tips on how to upgrade your identity:

How are you feeling today?
I’m a bit tired after a long day with many apartment visits.
At the moment, I’m looking for new tenants. On the one hand, I got positive feedback for the apartment today. On the other hand, I keep thinking about a lot of things:
What could have been gone better? What could I’ve explained better? What should I’ve said differently?
A lot of negative self-talk. If you also know this behavior, we’ve to work on that. It works by upgrading your identity.

1. Change your outcomes
Outcomes = results = goals you set ➜ what you get
Examples: losing weight, winning a tournament, getting more money
2. Change your processes
Processes = habits = systems ➜ what you do
Examples: implementing a new workout routine, developing a Yoga practice
3. Change your identity
Identity = beliefs ➜ what you believe
Examples: your self-image and world-view, your assumptions and biases
A system of beliefs supports every action.
Every belief is learned and conditioned by experience.
Every experience changes your self-image and behavior.
Let’s focus here on a 2-step process to change your identity:
1. Decide the type of person you want to be.
Focus on WHO you wish to become: “I’m the type of person WHO is this.”
Then change the underlying beliefs that drove your previous behavior.
Repeat these actions to form a habit and change your self-image and identity.
2. Prove it to yourself with small wins.
The path to changing your identity is paved with habits.
Habits become a part of your identity and they shape it. Your identity also shapes your habits. Be proud of them. This motivates you to maintain the behavior.
The process of building habits is the process of becoming yourself.
Continuously edit your beliefs, upgrade and expand your identity to become the best version of yourself.
