TMS #113: Rhythm, Routine, Riches

Master Your Daily Flow Like a Pro Drummer

Read time: 6 minutes

Hey there, MindLeader family!

If you've followed my journey, you know I love music.

It's almost as much as I love helping you become your best self.

Last week, I treated myself to some brand new drum gear.

This isn’t just any upgrade.

It's like a powerful new tool.

It reminds me of the importance of routine and dedication.

They can lead to greatness.

You know, the kind of greatness that puts you on a stage in front of a cheering crowd.

That's exactly where I'm heading: November 8, 2024.

I'll be drumming for EugĂŠnieVP.

I've committed to daily practice until then.

Today's post is about new drum gear.

It has rekindled my passion.

It has also reminded me of the power of rhythm and routine.

It's about creating a flow in life.

A flow that amounts to your version of wealth.

That could mean financial success, emotional fulfillment, or personal growth.

Let’s dive into how you, too, can find that rhythm and make it work for you.

My new drum gear. I love it.

I. The Power of Rhythm

Life is just like drumming.

It’s all about rhythm.

The beat drives everything.

It sets the pace, keeps you on track, and gives you a sense of direction.

Think about the last time you watched an amazing drummer.

They seem like they’re one with the drums.

Every beat flows naturally.

There’s effort, sure, but it’s almost like they’re in a state of pure focus, where everything is in perfect harmony.

This rhythm isn’t just for music.

It applies to life and business, especially for busy young entrepreneurs.

You’re juggling responsibilities, chasing goals, and facing setbacks.

But, if you find a rhythm in your day, a flow that gives structure, you'll be surprised.

It will be easier to handle the challenges.

Drumming has taught me that consistency is king.

I've resumed a strict practice routine for the upcoming concert.

I've been reminding myself of something that applies beyond music:

The power of small, consistent actions.

It doesn’t have to be flashy.

It doesn’t have to feel huge every day.

But every beat you make counts.

II. Routine: The Daily Practice of Mastery

When I got my first drums, I didn’t magically become better overnight.

It’s all about putting in the hours, learning from every session, and showing up even when I’m not feeling it.

If you want to create success in your life, you’ve got to approach it the same way.

You need a routine.

Something simple, reliable, and consistent that gets you closer to your goals.

Routine gets a bad rap sometimes.

It sounds boring.

But here's the thing:

Routine is the secret behind the magic you see on stage, whether it's a drum solo or a business deal.

My daily practice looks like this:

  1. I warm up with a hand workout routine and some basic beats.

  2. I focus on difficult sections of the songs.

  3. I end with something fun to keep the passion alive.

Now imagine applying a similar structure to your daily work routine.

What would your warm-up look like?

Maybe it’s checking in on your progress or meditating for clarity.

What’s the "difficult section" you need to tackle?

Is it sending that tough email, planning for a big project, or studying something you’ve been putting off?

And don’t forget to finish with something fun or fulfilling.

That keeps the fire going.

A well-crafted routine is like a strong backbone for your day.

It helps you find a productive rhythm and reduce procrastination.

Most importantly, it helps you make progress on days when motivation is lacking.

III. Riches: The Rewards of Mastering Flow

The concert on November 8th is my milestone.

It’s what I’m working toward.

Every single beat I practice today is contributing to that bigger performance.

That’s what the "riches" part is all about.

It’s not just about money—although if financial freedom is your goal, that’s great.

Riches are the rewards you reap from consistency.

They’re what come from mastering your own flow.

For me, preparing for this concert is about proving I can rise to the challenge after a break from my daily drumming.

The reward is the experience, the growth, and the chance to share that moment on stage.

For you, it might be about hitting an income target, launching your product, or having more free time.

But here’s the secret:

Riches only come when you find that rhythm and stick with it.

IV. Building Your Flow: Tips to Master Your Daily Routine

How do you find your rhythm and routine in a world full of distractions?

Here are some actionable tips you can start with today:

1. Define Your Beat

Every drummer has a core beat they return to.

Identify your daily “beat” that anchors your day.

What are the core habits or tasks that drive your productivity and well-being?

Is it working out in the morning, setting priorities, or learning something new for 30 minutes?

Define it, and make it non-negotiable.

2. Start Small, Stay Consistent

When I first picked up the sticks again, I didn't go straight into difficult solos.

I started with simple rhythms to build my foundation.

Do the same with your routine.

Start with small, achievable actions, and repeat them every day.

This might mean writing for 10 minutes, making 3 sales calls, or reviewing your goals.

The key is consistency.

3. Embrace the Boring Reps

Here’s the truth no one likes to hear.

Mastery comes from repetition, and repetition can be boring.

I can’t count how many times I’ve practiced the same pattern over and over again until it felt right.

Embrace the mundane parts of your routine—they’re the building blocks of success.

4. Practice with Purpose

You don’t want to just go through the motions.

When I practice, I focus on the areas where I need improvement.

I pay attention to my weaknesses.

For your routine, ask yourself:

What do I need to work on most?

How can I bring more intention into my daily habits?

5. Keep the Big Picture in Mind

Practicing every day isn’t just about sounding good in the moment.

It’s about putting on a great performance when it counts—on stage, in front of an audience.

Your daily routine should be connected to a bigger goal.

Keep that goal in mind.

Visualize your "concert"—whatever that milestone is for you.

6. Add Joy to the Routine

One thing that keeps me going is ending my practice with something I love—a song that brings me joy.

Add something to your routine that keeps it enjoyable.

It could be celebrating small wins.

Or, reward yourself after a productive session.

Or, do something you're passionate about each day.

V. Rhythm, Routine, Riches: Your Daily Flow Matters

I want to be real with you.

There have been days when picking up the drumsticks has been tough.

When I feel tired, uninspired, or overwhelmed by everything else on my plate.

But I know that the act of sticking with it, of building that flow, is what turns practice into mastery.

It’s the same in your life and business.

Some days it’s going to feel hard.

You won’t always feel motivated.

But the beauty of rhythm and routine is that they carry you forward, even when your mind tells you to stop.

To become a master drummer, I learned to trust the rhythm, respect the routine, and work for those riches—the rewards of showing up daily.

And to succeed in life and business, you can do the same.

VI. Your Turn: Create Your Beat

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed by everything you have to juggle, I challenge you to start small.

Define your beat.

Find that core habit or action that you’re going to do every single day.

It might seem insignificant at first.

But remember, that’s how rhythm works.

One small beat repeated with consistency becomes the foundation of an incredible performance.

Make your routine work for you.

Trust the process.

Keep your end goal in mind.

One day, you'll look back.

You'll see that those small, everyday moments held the real secret to your dreams.

It was the mundane routines, the tough repetitions, and the times you didn't give up.

You’re the drummer of your own life.

Set the beat.

Stick to it.

Master your rhythm, routine, and watch the riches follow.

Until next Saturday, stay disciplined, stay inspired, and keep grooving,
